A study led by Joelle Brown, a researcher at the University of California in Los Angeles, found that women using soaps and lubricants to clean the interior of their private parts increase their risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection.
According to Daily Mail, test results showed that 40% of the women who used Vaseline petroleum jelly as an internal lubricant had bacterial vaginosis.
Researchers explained that the interior of the vagina creates “good bacteria” that prohibits infection; using soap or other lubricants washes such bacteria away – leaving the woman vulnerable.
Doctors further advise women to use lubricants without gylcerine, such as Astroglide Free and K-Y Intrigue.
