A 56-year-old weightlifter allegedly shot himself in the shoulder Wednesday night around 9:00 PM after dropping a dumbbell on a .22 caliber bullet in his apartment.

Police said the man’s claim is suspicious but not entirely implausible.

According to the LA Times, neighbors did not report seeing any potential shooters fleeing the area, either.

The rim on the dumbbell could have impacted the bullet with enough force that it shot out, but the situation is still under investigation.

(WIDK By AnnaMarie Houlis) - A teacher who had sex with a student 12 years younger than her faces serious repercussions.

Kristy Sanchez-Trujillo, a 25-year-old former social studies teacher at Albuquerque’s Jimmy Carter Middle School, is accused of having sex with her 13-year-old student in the back of her SUV.

According to Action 7 News, Trujillo had nothing to say at her pretrial hearing on Thursday.

Trujillo is facing charges of rape of a minor and is also accused of violating conditions of her release.

Her trial will begin May 7.

(WIDK By AnnaMarie Houlis) - A teacher is accused of forcing her students to support a sex offender.

The Houston Christian School teacher Laura Perry allegedly launched a pen pal program and made 12 of her fourth grade students write to convicted sex offender Ricky Rae Rowlett because she is family friends with the child molester.

Perry was fired and the principal was put on paid leave while a civil law suit has been placed against the school.

Police are still checking that all the letters have been recovered, but according to My Fox Houston, they fear that the letters may have been shared with other inmates charged with sex crimes.

One mother pulled her children from the school and put them in counseling.

(WIDK By AnnaMarie Houlis) – He sold his entire life on impulse for one of which everyone else dreams.

After his wife left him, heartbroken Ian Usher, 48, sold everything from his car, house job and friends on eBay  and moved to Panama with nothing but a list of 100 goals to achieve in 100 weeks.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Usher has accomplished 93 goals, thus far, including running with the bulls in Spain, cage diving with sharks in South Africa, having a workplace romance, joining the “mile high” club, learning to fly a plane, skydiving nude and even getting a small part in a Hollywood movie.

In fact, on a dog-sledding expedition, Usher met his new love, Moe, who frequently visits him on his very own island in the Caribbean.

Usher does not know what lies in his future, but is making a path for himself as he moves along.

(WIDKY By AnnaMarie Houlis) – It’s good to know that our firefighters and police officers have that do whatever it takes attitude.

Rescue crews were left with no other choice but to use a chainsaw to cut a whole in the wall of a home with a suspicious “residual stink,” to rescue George Sargent, a 600 pound man.

Police said they have visited Sargent before since he lives on his own, but he has usually been okay up until this time.

According to Fire Engineering, emergency responders and a hazmat team from the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety were called in to check the odor and found Sargent conscious but unresponsive.

Sargent was eventually placed into the back of a flatbed truck and taken to a hospital.

(WIDK By AnnaMarie Houlis) – Recent acts of misconduct suggest that there might be a double standard for officers of the law.

Former Sgt. Mike Eiskant, whose badge number just so happened to be 69, was caught on video masturbating in his squad car while on duty, and pleaded no contest to two counts of attempt to commit a felony for false imprisonment, one count of stalking women, two counts of harassment and larceny and possession of marijuana.

Shannon Brady, who used to work alongside Eiskant said he had a “creeper” reputation and tried to bring a harassment complaint against him years ago to the Santa Fe police department’s human resource division but they did nothing.

According to the Huffington Post, Brady claims that Raymond Rael, who was in charge of the human resource devision but has since then been promoted to chief of police, accused her of only filing the complaint because Eiskant had a reputation, rather than accusing Eiskant for the complaints regarding him, knowing that he had a reputation.

Still, Eiskant is not facing any jail time and even his probation time will not exceed one year.

(WIDK By AnnaMarie Houlis) – We always hear about the dangers of texting while driving, but what about texting while walking?

For one California man, texting while walking almost had him attacked by a black bear, which he nearly walked into, and the whole interaction was caught on video.

According to Digital Life, the man said he was walking down the stairs and texting his boss that he’d be late for work, when he noticed a bear coming up the stairs in his direction.

Bears are common on garbage day in La Crescenta, California, and, therefore, soon after it was spotted around 3:00 AM, crews were able to tranquilize and transport it to a safer location.

As for the man, he just turned around and ran for his life—literally.

A suitcase zipped up with six English bulldog puppies and their mother was picked up on April 4 by the Lucas County Dog Warden’s office; tags with the contact information for Howard Davis were still on the luggage.

(WIDK By AnnaMarie Houlis) - This pit bull has lived up to his breed’s tenacious reputation.

On March 29th, animal rescue workers found a 3-year-old pit pull named Elijah in rural Nebraska, still alive four days since he had been shot twice—once in the hind quarters and once between his shoulders.

It is not illegal for an owner to shoot his or her dog in rural areas of Nebraska, which Elijah’s rescuers suspect happened in his case; however, they ask that owners use more ethical ways to put down their pets.

According to Fox News, maggots were feeding on the infections that covered Elijah, who could just barely walk.

The soldier has endured a number of surgeries but is recovering at Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue in Sioux City, Iowa, and is still warm around people, despite having been left for dead.

Dillon O’Donnell, 18, a male escort, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly beating client William B. Davis, III, 38, with a lawn decoration and then stabbing him to death over an $800 debt .

O’Donnell’s roommates told authorities that he spoke of killing Davis the day before the crime; they also saw him return home Saturday to wash the blood from his hands, but thought nothing of it since he often participates in devil worship rituals.

According to WESH News, Davis picked up O’Donnell around 11:30 PM on Thursday night, and O’Donnell returned to the residence later on with his client’s car.

Davis was eventually found dead in his yard around 12:40 AM Saturday.

(WIDK By AnnaMarie Houlis) - Drug users pay for their expenses somehow, but whoever deemed of impersonating a veterinarian?

In Akron, Ohio, 35-year-old Brandi A. Tomko appeared before the Summit County Commons Pleas Court to ask for a reduction in her bail, after being charged with animal cruelty, identity fraud and practicing at C&D Animal Hospital devoid of a license, though her request was denied.

According to News Net 5, Tomko treated pets at C&D Animal Hospital, which includes drawing blood, writing prescriptions and even performing surgeries such as spaying and declawing cats and neutering dogs.

She initially worked in the office for approximately two years, but the owner eventually left and she took over the facility, using the cash she earned to buy heroin.

Tomko also faces eight counts of drug possession and protesters outside the courtroom argue that harsher ramifications are implemented for the animal cruelty she committed.

(WIDK By AnnaMarie Houlis) – He bragged he would not get caught, but he was not so lucky.

Brazilian man Richard Finkbiner, 39, was arrested on Friday for coercing and sexually exploiting teenage boys; he bragged to his victims that he would not get caught.

According to Indystar, Finkbiner found sexually explicit photos of the boys online, and threatened that if they did not send him more, he would embarrass them by posting their photographs on homosexual websites, or emailing them to their friends and family.

Police found 1,000 images of boys on Finkbiner’s computers, and he is now preliminarily charged with two counts of sexually exploiting children, each carrying a maximum of 30 years in prison.

The FBI and U.S. attorney’s office are hoping that more leads in the case will come forward since they have publicly circulated Finkbiner’s mugshot.
