“What does the fox say?” I’m not sure I want to know.
A Norwegian comedy duo asks a burning question in this music video.
You know when someone asks a question so simple and straightforward that it stops you cold and leaves you clueless not only as to why you don’t know the answer but also as to why you never even thought to ask? Watch this video and you will. Why the Hell don’t we know what the fox says? They teach us all the other animal noises in kindergarten—why not the fox? Has he kept it hidden, ashamed of a greasy Jersey accent that he’s never been able to fully erase? Or do we keep him quiet, afraid that hearing him will make us uncomfortable about wearing his fur? (Is that why we only wear rabbits, mink, alligators, and other silent animals? Cows don’t count because they’re delicious). Or is it, perhaps, that hearing the fox’s true voice melt our faces, Raiders of the Lost Ark-style, and condemn our souls to an eternity of suffering?
We may never know what the fox says. But, after watching this video, I’m going to choose to go with “hatee-hatee-hatee-ho!”, simply because I want to live in a world where that’s true.
