(WIDK By Bob Bachelder) - A family bike ride turned tragic on Saturday when a father and daughter were killed.
Solaiman Nuri, 41, and his 9-year-old daughter Hodees, were killed by a teenage driver who lost control of his cadillac SUV, as they rode their bikes in Concord, Northern California.
According to Mercury News, the 2002 Cadillac Escalade flew over the curb hitting Nuri and his two daughters.
Witnesses say that the teen driver was traveling at a very excessive speed and that the accident could have been avoided.
Nuri’s older daughter, 12-year-old Hannah, was also hit by the vehicle but only suffered minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
The teen driver, whose name has not been released, was administered drug and alcohol tests at the scene to see if there were any other factors leading to his negligence. The driver’s cell phone records are also being checked.
Mr. Nuri was described as ’one of the best, best guys’ by a fellow youth soccer coach.
“Here you have a father spending time with his girls, enjoying a Saturday-morning bike ride. It’s tragic,” said witness Mark Lucas.
