(WIDK By Olivia Roat) - The tragic death of a girl diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy was due to severe neglect and malnutrition on the part of her mother and other caregivers.
Angela Norman, 42, of Dayton, Ohio, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Friday after her daughter, Makayla, died in March 2011 from nutritional and medical neglect.
According to the Associated Press, Makayla was supposed to be cared for by her mother and an LPN, Mollie E. Parsons, who was supposed to work at the home 6 days a week; both women, along with Parsons’ supervisor and a registered nurse paid to assess Makayla’s health needs, have been charged.
The director of the county coroner’s office described Makayla as ”the worst malnourished child this office has ever seen.”
Norman currently remains in jail bail set at $250,000; she and the three other defendants are scheduled for trial on April 18.
