(WIDK by Meggan Gittens) - Five people were injured as a experimental plane crashed into a supermarket.
Around 7:20pm Monday evening several customers at the Northgate Shopping Center called 911 to report the crashing of a tiny plane into a supermarket. Moments before the two-engine experimental plane crashed, witness said, the plane showed signs of distress.
According to ABC News supermarket employees saw the pilot and passenger climb from the plane with their clothes on fire. Police spokesman states that three people suffered severe burns and two others had moderate burns.
It is not clear how many shoppers were in the supermarket at the time but reports state that no shopper had life-threatening injuries.
The plane had taken off from a nearby municipal airport in the DeLand city area.
