(WIDK By Bob Bachelder) - Parents of a young girl are on trial for banishing their daughter to the basement of their home for years.
A 15-year-old girl from Madison, Wisconsin has told police detectives that her parents locked her in the basement and only allowed her to eat food scraps and trash. Her father and stepmother have been charged with child abuse, child neglect, and reckless endangerment.
According to The Daily Mail, the girl escaped from the home and was found by a passing motorist. She weighed only 70 pounds and the motorist believed the 15-year-old was only about 8-years-old.
She had escaped before, only to have been found and brought back by her parents.
The judge in the case ordered that the video confession the girl made to detectives be used in court as evidence.
In a separate incident, the girl’s 18-year-old stepbrother has been charged with child abuse and sexual assault for forcing her to perform oral sex on him on multiple occasions.
